Submission Package Review

The course

Make your submission package stand out with advice from our experts

Do you need a professional eye on your submission package before sending it out to agents?

Our reviewers are published authors and writing tutors with a track record and extensive experience in the industry. They’ll read your first 10,000 words, synopsis and query letter and give you feedback in the form of a manuscript mark-up and notes, with specific, practical advice on how to make your submission package shine. You’ll also have a follow-up Zoom call to discuss any questions and next steps.

Book your service

A submission package review is £395 for reading and reviewing the first 10,000 words of your manuscript, one-page synopsis and query letter.

Things to know

This service is for anyone who wants an expert opinion on their submission package before starting to approach agents.

It’s suitable if you:

  • Are submitting to agents for the first time or have already started submitting but haven’t been getting responses
  • Feel your submission package is ready to send out, but need an expert option and advice on how add the finishing touches to make it stand out
  • Want specific, practical advice from a supportive reviewer who understands your challenges because they’ve been through the process themselves
  • Would like to chat on Zoom with your reviewer about the submissions process.

One of our reviewers will read your first 10,000 words, one-page synopsis and query letter and give you feedback on what’s working, areas for development, and advice on how to hone each element to capture an agent’s attention.

You will also have a 30-minute follow-up Zoom call to discuss the feedback and next steps.

Agents are inundated with submissions, and as you can only normally submit an idea to an agent once, you need to make sure that a) it’s ready to submit, and b) your submission package stands out.

By booking a submission review, you’ll get expert feedback on your query letter, synopsis and first 10,000 words, which will tell you what’s working and highlight any areas you need to develop before you submit.

You’ll also have a 30-minute call with your reviewer to discuss your feedback and ask any questions you have.

All our reviewers are traditionally published authors with experience as editors and tutors. They’ve been through the submissions process themselves, so they have a thorough understanding of how it works and what agents and publishers are looking for.

As well as our main reviewers listed on the page, we also work with a range of other freelance reviewers so we can cover most genres and age ranges.

When you book a submission review, you can express a preference for a particular reviewer (you can view their profiles on the submission review page), but it may depend on individual reviewer availability.

We always try to match writers with reviewers who have expertise in the genre or area you’re writing in, e.g. if you’re writing crime fiction, we’ll choose a reviewer who has experience in this genre – usually a crime/thriller author

Once we’ve matched you with a reviewer, we usually allow 2-3 weeks for them to read and give feedback on your manuscript. If you need your review by a particular date, please get in touch before you book, and we’ll try to work out a timescale to suit.
