Write your story and benefit your health
Do you want to share experiences and memories, learn foundational non-fiction writing skills, and write powerful stories that connect with others? Find out how to express yourself in a way that motivates readers to engage with the events, places and communities that mean something to you.
Designed to get stories out of your head and onto the page, this five-week course will build your confidence as a memoir and non-fiction writer, whatever your starting point and level of experience.
Working alongside a small group of fellow writers with an expert tutor in a safe space, you’ll learn the basic rules of storytelling and how to get real-life experience onto the page so others will want to read on. You’ll find out how to bring scenes to life, and create vivid characters and memorable dialogue. We’ll also cover professional editing and rewriting skills.
As a bonus, forming a story about life experiences is associated with improved physical and mental health. Evidence points to the value of a coherent, organised format (writing) as a way to give meaning to an event and manage the emotions associated with it. Here’s some research that proves it.
By the end of the course you will have devised and written a complete story from scratch, and have the knowledge to structure and edit your work going forward. And, we hope, boosted confidence and positivity.
