Victoria Field is a pioneer in the use of writing for health and wellbeing and is a qualified biblio- poetry therapist.
She began writing seriously in her thirties after attending a course on a Greek island in 1995. She has always loved reading in all kinds of genres, and when she discovered the power of poetry, fiction and drama to give voice to experience and imagination, there was no stopping her.
Victoria has since published several poetry collections, most recently ‘A Speech of Birds’ (Francis Boutle, 2020). The Lost Boys (Waterloo Press, 2013) won the Holyer an Gof Prize for Poetry and Drama. Her co-translation of On The Contrary (fal, 2023) won the 2024 Sarah Maguire Prize for the best book of poetry in English translation by a living poet from beyond Europe. Her memoir Baggage – A Book of Leavings (Francis Boutle, 2016) is an account of pilgrimage and marriage. Additionally she has had three plays professionally produced.
After working for Survivors Poetry, Victoria became interested in the link between poetry and mental health, subsequently training as a Certified Poetry Therapist with the International Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy. She has run writing workshops in health, social care and educational settings, and continues to mentor, train and offer workshops for many different organisations. She has edited three books on therapeutic writing and contributed to many academic and popular publications, including a ‘Crafting a Cure’ column for Mslexia magazine.
Her doctorate, completed in 2023, was on The Pilgrim-Writer, and she is a sessional academic at Canterbury Christ Church University.
